The best way to save money while on travel is the lock on the accommodation budget. There are heaps of backpackers hostel around the world, and my journey around the kangaroo land led me to Melbourne Discovery Hostel. For guests who stay 3 or more consecutive nights, they offer a free airport pick up from Tullamarine Airport. However, if by any chance you miss their daily pick up, just simply go to bus zone 2 or 5 and jump on the Star Bus. The ticket is $10 per person. Outside of 5AM to 9PM, you need to jump on a Skybus to Southern Cross Station. The ticket is $16 per person. From there, the easiest way to get to the hostel is by taxi that will approximately cost you $10. You can also get the Free City Circle Tram from the station and get off at the corner of Queen & La Trobe Street. Then walk up one block to Franklin and turn right. The hostel is at 167 Franklin st.
Having recommended by a friend, Melbourne Discovery Hostel is one of the cheapest hostels in Melbourne, for all I knew. It is a $24 per night, including free Wi-Fi, breakfast, etc. Restaurants and small food stalls is within a walking distance, as well as the local market and other tourist attractions. As I approached the hostel entrance, I noticed that the parking lot was nowhere to be found in front, as it apparently located at the back. The exteriors and interiors of the hostel was okay and well-maintained.
The first room I entered was a cafeteria. During night time, this space serves as a club where you can listen to the favorite music, enjoy drinks, eat some snacks, or just sit there with a nice company. By the time I finally booked my room, it took me a little more time to see what this hostel is offering. I passed through the hallway with lazy-bags as I walked to my room. Everything I saw was exactly like they show on the internet. I stayed in a dormitory room of 10 beds, and got the lower bunk. I didn't see any window in the room to allow sunlight and fresh air enter it. Well, I guess you pay what you get.
Staying at a backpacker accommodation offers me an opportunity to live independently. I guess the great part of traveling is not entirely about how wise you spend money to see many places and get all the excitements, but for me it is more about meeting new people,
learning new stuff and seeing things from different perspectives. Traveling is like writing a personal journal. You always have a story to tell. There are ups and downs, good and
bad experiences -those are part of being alive- but every experience makes a journey worth a
shot.
I have been traveling for all my life, and gratefully met tons of awesome people
along the road. I learned a lot about the most valuable lesson in life, about how to appreciate
everything and to simply embrace life. People these days believe to enjoy life means to
have everything, and most of the times everything
is not enough for us. And while we are busy
fulfilling everything, we miss the chance to appreciate
what we had back there. Life is just too
damn short to spend it that way. I remember a quote I read the other day in the local newspaper, "Enjoy the
little things in life, for one day you will look back and realize they
were the big things“. Well, I don't want to waste any opportunity to embrace the beauty of life. As the Italian folks say, “La Vita é Bella”.
